Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2WZM1AFWAG7WL This speaker has more bass than the Altec Lansing Music Speaker, which I also own. If you want to go that extra mile and spend a little more for a richer bass experience, I recommend this speaker.
Altec Lansing iM237 vs. Panasonic Folding Travel Speakers (RPSPT70)

THIS IS MY OPINION, DO NOT TRY TO SUE ME PLEASE!!!
Alright, received my new iM237 last week and thought I should compare it side by side with an old (3 years+) Panasonic Folding Travel Speakers (RPSPT70) which belongs to a friend of mine. Our purpose/intended use for both speakers is for hiking/backpacking, canoeing, inline skating/cycling, and general outdoor portable use (walking/dancing around town/country/campsite). We have used the Panasonic Folding Travel Speakers (RPSPT70) for years and have been EXTREMELY satisfied with its performance. They still sell the Panasonic on Amazon for approx. $16 and I bought my iM237 for approx $28.
Pros of iM237:
1. Sounds a little more clear on higher volume than the Panasonic.
2. Handles bass much much better (I listen to electronic music so this is important to me)
3. Larger speaker contributes to better bass and clearer sound.
4. A little smaller and lighter loaded with batteries than the Panasonic.
5. Green/Red LED indicator for battery life.
6. Great carrying case, protects speaker while backpacking or canoeing
7. Battery life is WAY WAY better than the Panasonic (3 AAA, Panasonic takes 4 AA).

Pros of the RPSPT70
1. Louder than the iM237 and can be heard further away (surprisingly loud).
2. Two speakers give it more of a stereo effect.
3. Panasonic sells an AC adapter for this speaker (for home use).
4. Extremely durable speaker, we have dropped on concrete, water, you name it. Time tested.
5. Plays as a passive speaker when batteries are out/off. iM237 just turns off completely.

Conclusion: For $8 extra I like the iM237 a lot more than the Panasonic. I love the battery life (12-18 Hrs compared to 4-6 Hrs) and the clarity of the sound. I love the carrying case. I like the bass performance more. However, if you don't have the extra cash, and want a very LOUD, tough portable speaker go with the Panasonic. I think both are good products and worth the Amazon price.
BIG sound....SMALL package...

Size does NOT matter. In an effort to obtain some type of external and portable speaker system for the 3G iPhone, there are seemingly average options and an equal amount of less than avergae options.
The name Altec immediately jumped out as a contender here and I have to say, this thing is awesome! Right away, 3 AAA batteries as opposed to the 1 or 2 in other speakers lets you know that a bit more juice is flowing through the system. In addition, for one speaker to accomplish the range that this unit does is truly impressive.
My wife runs an outdoor sporting event league and needed something to put on the table next to the Bocce courts just to jazz up the air. Mission accomplished. Have not yet measured the battery life but I would anticipate that the volume level will have something to do with it. I am prepared for 3 to 5 hours at a decent volume.
Also, great little carrying case with a clip to hang it from your backpack, etc.
I normally do not review products but this was an exception due to the value for the money. I think I am going to order a 2nd one now becuase I know my wife will be possessive with hers!
Exactly what I expected!

Even after reading the positive reviews, I was skeptical as to whether this speaker would fit my needs. I needed to use this for an outdoor tabling event where there were no electric outlets nearby. There would also be other tables around, so it would result in a loud atmosphere. I needed the speaker to play loud enough so that people in the area could hear the music over the multitude of conversations.
I am happy to say that this speaker fit all of my expectations, and even more! It's compact, battery-powered, plugs into mp3 players/computers, and plays clear audio.
It's surprisingly loud and clear for such a small speaker. There's very little static or background noise. I'm no sound expert, but this speaker covers the ranges pretty well. I can hear the high-pitches and bass very well.
I was expecting it to be a bit larger, about the size of a good-sized bagel. But it turns out it's about half that size, about muffin size. Which is great, because it's easier to carry around now.

The only downside is that the 3.5mm audio input is fairly short, about 8.5 inches. It would be nice if the cable were a bit longer.

I definitely recommend this for anyone who is in need of a speaker without an outlet in the area. It's a great product!
For the size & price, this is a great speaker. Helpful Hint Below!

I've owned several ultra-compact travel speakers, and this is by far the best one. I have nothing really to add to previous reviews, but this:
To make replacing the batteries easier, I took a sharpie and marked one dot on the battery cover and one dot on the base so they aligned at the insert point before you turn it to lock. This makes it a lot easier to put the cover back on. I hope the manufacturer takes note.
