“VERY happy, great transition from Ipod” 2010-01-23

Thank god for Amazon reviews. I was looking for a replacement for my Ipod Nano and that gawd awful POS software known as iTunes. I do like the simplicity of the Sony S-Series unit. I was looking for a pure MP3 player with a great battery life and I think i’ve found it. The interface is simple and the screen/display is vivid. Dragging and dropping music a la Windows Explorer comes naturally, though I may try Mediamonkey as one review suggested.

One annoying feature is how the clock continuously turns on and off every minute or so. Can anyone tell me how to turn that off?

“Sony will not play while charging, Walmart bad” 2010-01-21

I just found out that this player will not play while charging. My iPOD and many other MP3 players will play during charging, thus this Sony is no good for roadtrips, multiple trips to the gym, etc.

Also, Walmart will not take the player back, although I purchased it only 21 days ago. I highly recommend shopping for this(or any other) device anywhere but Walmart.

This is a fantastic ipod alternative. I absolutely love it. Sometimes think I might like it a little smaller. The screen size is fantastic, so I’ll take it being a little large.

The seller sent an email and said that the item was listed wrongly. Instead of telling me if the item was available or still in-stock, the seller tried to sell me a different item at a 60% higher price. It was ridiculous and unacceptable.

“Not worth it vs Ipod” 2010-01-18

I bought the Sony instead of an Ipod because of the price competitiveness per GB. This price is just unbeatable.

However, there are draw-backs that just me turned off completely.

The first one has to do with the USB connection. It is proprietary of Sony and if you lose your cable, then you are done or have to buy it from Sony at $18… I took the player with me on a long air travel to Europe and for some reason the power was lost (I suspect that it was on the bag). So, by the time I tried to charge it back, I couldn’t find a compatible cable in Europe.

Moreover, you cannot connect to other devices Ipod friendly as the interface is different. You got to go through the proprietary Sony cable. Sony did a terrible strategic error in my perspective. They were much better off if the connection was Ipod compatible.

Also, for some reason my car that has a USB interface does not recognize the Sony.

Then another issue less important but interesting is that the Walkman has a dial Ipod alike. The problem is that it works like normal arrows and not a turning dial. I frequently end up trying to turn the dial like in an Ipod, which says much about the Ipod interaction vs Sony.

I could live with that, but not being able to use the walkman more generally just kills it.
